Classroom Expectations and Policies
Mrs. Oquist
2004-2005

Materials
You will need to bring your textbook, notebook paper, and a pen or pencil to class every day. You will also need a 3-ring binder in which to keep notes, homework, test, quizzes, etc.

Expectations

  1. Respect other students, teachers, the school facilities, and other people's belongings.
  2. Be prepared when you come to class. This means have your textbook, notebook, paper, and a pen or pencil.
  3. Be willing to participate (by listening, responding, and interacting).
  4. Be in your seat when the bell rings. If you are not, you will be counted tardy.

Discipline Procedures
Discipline will be dealt with on an individual basis. Possible consequences for misbehavior include but are not limited to: verbal warnings, contacting parents or guardians, detentions, Saturday detentions, and conferences with administrators.

Remember that you have many choices to make. The classroom environment will be a result of your actions, so please show respect to everyone in the room and behave in such a way that everyone can learn.

Policies

  1. Treat other students, the teacher, and guests (including substitutes) as you wish to be treated. During class you need to raise your hand to speak. You are to show respect by listening to the person who is speaking and not interrupting.
  2. You must exercise respect for all lab equipment and other things in the room at all times, or you will suffer consequences appropriate to your carelessness. This includes accidents; be alert at all times, for both your safety and that of the people around you.
  3. Candy, food, gum, and drinks are not allowed.
  4. Assignments are to be turned in on time. You may turn an assignment in by the end of the day if you are not prepared to do so in class, and your grade will not be penalized. If your assignment cannot be handed in on the day that it is due, it cannot be handed in. Late work is not accepted!
  5. It is your responsibility to come to class prepared. You begin each week with 25 points. Every time you are unprepared or act irresponsibly, you will lose 5 points.
  6. Read and follow the Student Conduct Policies as stated in the Alvirne High School Student Handbook.

Binder
In the three-ring binder that you are required to have, you will be keeping all of your notes, homework, quizzes, tests, labs, and projects. Do not throw anything away! This is for you to use as a reference throughout the year.

Absences and Weekly Schedule
It is your responsibility to ask for make-up work if you are absent. Every Monday a weekly schedule will be given to you. This will have all homework, tests, labs, etc. listed. If you are not here on a Monday, pick one up as soon as you return, or check my website. If you are absent Tuesday - Friday, check your schedule and pick up any necessary papers when you return. If you are absent for one day, you will have two school days to turn in any work you missed. If you are absent for more than one day, you will have five school days to turn in any work you missed. If you need additional time, you need to see me!

Grades will be based on a total point system. The four areas that will comprise your grade, along with their corresponding weights, are as follows:

Major (tests, projects, writing, lab reports) 40%
Minor (quizzes, activities) 20%
