About Mrs. Oquist
I grew up near Medaryville, IN. Medaryville is a rural agricultural community in northwest Indiana about 2 hours northwest of Indianapolis and an hour and a half southeast of Chicago. My dad is the manager of Jasper-Pulaski Fish and Wildlife Area. My mom stayed home with me and my two sisters for several years, and then she held a couple of different jobs (all relating to education). She is currently a librarian at West Central Elementary School. I have two sisters; one graduated from Taylor University in January and is now employed by the Marion Community Schools as a reading specialist. The other graduated from high school in June 2004 and is a freshman Environmental Engineering major at Taylor.
I graduated from West Central High School in 1996. I then attended Taylor University in Upland, IN and graduated with a B.S. in Elementary Education in 2000. I have endorsements that enable me to teach English/Language Arts and Science.
While at Taylor, I met my husband Matt. We were married June, 2001. Matt works for Hewlett Packard and is a founding member of Software Freedom Day.
I taught English/Language Arts and Science at Wes-Del Middle School in Gaston, IN for the 2000-01 school year. In August 2001 my husband and I moved to New Hampshire, where I found a job teaching Earth Science at Alvirne High School. This (2004-2005) will be my fourth year teaching at Alvirne.
